Leslie B. Thomas, 89, of Franklin, passed away Thursday, July 1, 2010. Born in Adena, OH, he was the son of the late Walter Thomas and Martha Binns Thomas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers. Leslie was a US Navy veteran and served during WWII. He graduated from Wooster College; was an avid golfer; enjoyed gardening and was very handy and could fix virtually anything. Leslie will be remembered for his passion for life and ability to make people laugh. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty Thomas; three children, Mark Thomas and wife Nancy of Atlanta, GA, Barbara Lawson and husband Mike of Omaha, NE and Holly Samson and husband Rick of Jupiter, FL; two grandchildren, Carley Boyette and Christopher Lawson and several nieces and nephews. Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, in the Chapel of First Presbyterian Church. Rev. Samuel Pope will officiate. Reception will follow at Tartan Hall. Interment will be in the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. Memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Caregiver Retreat, 108 Wayah Street, Franklin, NC 28734.
