Obituary for Lawrence George Shindelman

Lawrence George Shindelman died at home on November 2, 2008. He is survived by his wife, Maethel Shindelman; daughter, Martha and husband John Zeigler; son, Damien Michael Shindelman and grandsons, Stewart Noe and David Beck. Larry was born in Brooklyn, NY, May 13, 1918. He attended Julliard School of Music in NYC and participated in the Boston Comic Opera and other Broadway productions before and after service in the Mediterranean/African theaters during WWII.

The family moved to Franklin in 1970 when Mr. Shindelman began working for a St. Louis bridal gown manufacturer until retirement in 1985. He has been active in a number of area organizations he is probably best known as the “sandwich maker” for the League of Women “Lunch with the League”. As a founding member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, he served as a Board Member and President of the group. Up to the time of his death he was an ardent supporter of the building of the new sanctuary where the first service was conducted on November 23, 2008, just three weeks after his death.

A Memorial Services for Mr. Shindelman will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, Sierra Drive, off Lakeside Drive at 2:00 p.m. December 6, 2008.
