Obituary for Larry Wayne Dryman

Larry Wayne Dryman, 79 – loving husband, father of two, and friend of many – passed away peacefully at home in his wife’s arms on the morning of October 12, 2022, in Franklin, NC. He was born on March 30, 1943, son of the late Merle and Prelo Dryman, also of Franklin.

Larry is survived by his loving sweetheart and wife of 23 years, Ann Fagg Dryman, son Zachary Wayne Dryman (Tofer Whitmire) of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, his daughter Heidi Ann Metts (Darren Metts), of Prosperity, SC, his granddaughters Mallorie Ruth and Emma Jean Metts of Prosperity, SC, his brother Richard of Greensboro, NC, along with his niece Elizabeth, nephew Chris, and many cousins.

Larry, like his mom and dad, was a popular and well-loved citizen of Franklin. He attended NC State and Massey College and graduated with a degree in Business Administration. He was the proud owner of Dryman’s Men Shop in Clayton, GA, taking after his father who owned a men’s shop on Main Street Franklin bearing the same name. He also owned and managed the “What’s New?” ladies clothing store and “Uh-oh! Outlet” in Clayton.

In addition to running his own businesses, Larry worked for Dunn and Bradstreet in Atlanta, General Electric Corporation in Augusta, GA, First Atlanta Mortgage Company, NCNB Mortgage Company in Florence, SC, as well as the mortgage department of Rabun County Bank.

Larry served as Staff Sargent of the Georgia Air National Guard and had the honor of serving as President of the Clayton Rotary Club as well as the Clayton Merchant’s Association. He was an avid Boy Scout and earned his Rank of Life badge when he was a teenager.

Those that knew Larry recount his lively personality and love of entertainment. He will be fondly remembered as a DJ, karaoke host, singer, and entertainer, serving up joy and amusement for happy gatherings at weddings, restaurants, country clubs, and private parties in the tri-state area. Larry was always the life of the party and his infectious personality resonated with all those he met.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at 11am in the chapel of Macon Funeral Home. The family will receive friends 10-11am, one hour prior to the service. Revs’ Janet and Vic Greene will officiate. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
