Obituary for Kathleen Proffitt (King)

Kathleen  Proffitt (King)
Kathleen King Proffitt, 81, of Franklin, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2008, following an extended illness.

A native of Yancey County, she was the daughter of the late Monroe and Martha Jane McIntosh King. She was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters. She was a graduate of Mars Hill College. She worked as a bookkeeper for 30 years and retired in 1998. She was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine by Gov. James B. Hunt, Jr. in September 2000. This is the highest award bestowed by the governor in the State of N.C. Mrs. Proffitt was an avid supporter of the Macon County Fair. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Proffitt was a member of Franklin First United Methodist Church since 1950.

She is survived by her husband of 58 ½ years, Wayne Proffitt, two daughters, Gail Young and husband Richard of Franklin and Janet Waddell and husband David of Asheville, NC; three grandchildren, Brittany Waddell of Asheville, Michelle Green and husband Steve and Michael Young and wife Tamara all of Franklin; two great grandchildren, Anna Green and Kevyn Young; one sister, Wilma Harris of Burnsville and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 1, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Wayne Allen will officiate. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 30, at Macon Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Steve Green, Michael Young, Lewis Penland, Ronnie Vinson, Emory Crawford and Marcie Estes Jones.

Memorial donations may be made to the St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
