Obituary for Joyce Ruth MacKenzie

Joyce Ruth MacKenzie, 80, of Franklin, formerly of West Haven and Branford, CT, passed away Thursday, May 29, 2008.
She was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Beatrice MacKenzie. Ms. MacKenzie was a graduate of the Hartt College of Music, now part of the University of Hartford. She spent 22 years teaching vocal music in the public schools of Hamden, CT, and Phoenix, AZ, and a private school in Racine, WI. In addition to teaching, she directed church choirs in New Haven; Mesa, AZ; and Racine, and served as Director of The Carolines (a women’s chorus) in Franklin, for 10 years. Ms. MacKenzie also worked as a professional photographer and was a real estate agent in the Daytona Beach area of FL. At the time of her death, she was a member of the Macon County Art Association and The Macon User’s Group (a computer club). She was also founder and member of the Franklin Camera Club and Digital Club; serving as President and/or director of both. Ms. MacKenzie also sang with the Western Carolina Community Chorus. Ms. MacKenzie photographed and traveled extensively throughout the 50 states as well as Great Britain and Western Europe. One of her favorite interests, besides photography, was Colonial Williamsburg, where she was a member of the W.A.R. Goodwin Society, and the Duke of Gloucester Society.
Funeral Service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 1, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Phil Williams will officiate. Burial will be in the Beaverdale Cemetery, New Haven, CT.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Hartt School of Music, the Williamsburg Foundation, the Restless Leg Foundation of Rochester Minnesota or the National Trust for Historic Preservation for use in restoration projects in Macon County.
