Obituary for John McGill Wallace
John McGill Wallace, 89, of Franklin, passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2006.
A native of Macon County, he was the son of the late Rev. J. Q. Wallace and Alberta Hayes Wallace. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary Jo Ghent, Esther Gustaw, Margaret Isbill, and Myrtle Nimms, and one brother, Robert Wallace. He retired from John Hancock Insurance as Director of Field Administration; was a WWII retired veteran of the US Air Force and Army Air Force as a Captain, serving thirty-eight months in the South Pacific; former volunteer at Angel Medical Center; member of the High Valley Square Dance Club, Nantahala Hiking Club; and a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are his wife of sixty-one years, Eleanor Whitehead Wallace; three children, Karl Wallace of Columbia, SC, Neal Wallace and wife Lisa of Seaside, OR, and Audrey Carr and husband Bob of Mocksville, NC; one sister, Barbara Wallace of Franklin; four grandchildren, Leslie Jean Williams of Pensacola, FL, Mary Ann Coward of Hampton, GA, John Christopher Wallace of Seaside, OR, and Christopher Carr of Mocksville, NC; five great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 16, in the Chapel of the First Presbyterian Church. Dr. Bob Abel will officiate, with military rites conducted by VFW Post 7339 and American Legion Post 108.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 26 Church Street, Franklin, NC 28734 or Westcare Home Health and Hospice, 132 Sylva Plaza, Sylva, NC 28779.
