Obituary for John Malone

JOHN STOWELL MALONE, 69, of Franklin, passed away Thursday, June 14, 2007.

Born to Hazel Stowell Malone from Wyndham, Vermont and John J. Malone from Glendine, County Clare, Ireland, John was raised and educated in Hamden Connecticut. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1956-1960 and married Juanita Malone in 1969. He is survived by Juanita, his step children, Tam Luallen of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and Joseph Skelton of Bremen, Indiana, 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Also, John's twin brother, Thomas E. Malone, his wife Mary of Palos Verdes Estates, California, and nieces, Shauna and Molly Malone of San Francisco and Buenos Aires, Argentina, his brother Gerald of Hamden, CT. and his wife, Betsy Anderson Malone.

A life-long restaurateur, John opened his first restaurant in high school at Savin Rock, CT., later serving as chef of the Officer's Club in Iceland, Hopkins Grammar School in New Haven, and Dock and Dine in Saybrook Point, CT. With his wife, Juanita, John ran restaurants in Rhode Island: The Jefferson Diner, The Canfield House, The Island Omelette Shoppe in Newport and Jamestown.

John and Juanita owned The Rose Cottage, a B&B in Jamestown, R.I. and The Spanish Point Lodge in Miltown Malbay, County Clare, Ireland before retiring to Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and Franklin, North Carolina.

John was active in arts communities wherever he resided, and was an devout member of the Catholic church serving hundreds of meals to the homeless.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 21, at St. Francis Catholic Church. Father Matthew Kauth will officiate.

Visitation from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, at Macon Funeral Home. A Rosary Service will follow.
