Obituary for John W. Jacobs

John W.  Jacobs
John W. Jacobs Sr., 83, of Franklin, passed away Friday, September 26, 2008 after a period of declining health.

He was a native of Clearwater, FL, moving to North Carolina in 1989 and was the son of the late Dorothy G. Young Jacobs and Ira John Young of Clearwater, FL. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sister, Ima Young Watford of McKenzie, AL; two brothers, Courtland G. Young of Clearwater, FL and Ira James Young of College Station, TX; son, Jeffrey B. Jacobs of Clearwater, Fl and his step-father, Harry Jacobs of Clearwater, FL. John was a retired member of the Clearwater Fire Dept. Mr. Jacobs retired with the rank of Commander after 20 years of service. John was a Navy Veteran of WWII serving in the Aleutian Islands Campaign as navigator and Flight Engineer with a Naval Patrol Bombing Squadron; Fleet Air Wing Six and later with a Flag Utility Squadron in the Philippine Island Campaign. After WWII he served in the US Coast Guard in a Search and Rescue Squadron as a Flight Engineer. He was a past member of the B.P.O.E Naval Lodge #353 Port Angeles, Washington.

John is survived by his dear loving wife, Brenda J. Jacobs of Franklin, NC; daughter, Dawne E. Roberts and husband Bruce of Davie, FL; three sons, John W. Jacobs Jr. of Franklin, NC, Dr. Jerry R. Jacobs and wife, Debbie of Springhill, FL and James R. Jacobs and wife Lynn of Clearwater, FL; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, September 29,in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Vic Green will officiate. Full military honors will be conducted by the VFW Post 7339 and the American Legion Post 108.

The family will receive friends from 12-1 p.m. Monday, at Macon Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Angel Hospice, 170 Church Street, Franklin NC, 28734.
