Obituary for John Melvin Glenn

John Melvin  Glenn
John Melvin Glenn, 85, of Franklin, passed away Saturday, March 6, 2010.

Born in Gatesville, NC, he was the son of the late John M. Glenn and Camilla Yarborough Glenn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John M. Glenn, Jr. of Atlanta, GA and a sister, Eleanor Glenn Hinton of Gatesville, NC. John served in the U.S. Air Force as navigator on B24 during WWII; graduated from N.C. State University with a bachelor of mechanical engineering; charter member of Sigma Chi Fraternity; worked for 37 years for ITT Grinnell, the last 24 years as branch manager in Memphis, Tennessee; moved to Franklin in 1989; member of St. Agnes Episcopal Church where he was an officer of the brotherhood of St. Andrew and on vestry; avid golfer at Mill Creek, served as board member and “shot his age” three times.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Waynette Blackburn Glenn; three children, Susie Glenn Sullivan of Knoxville, TN, Wayne Blackburn Glenn of Huntsville, AL and Lawson Yarborough Glenn of Atlanta, GA; seven grandchildren, Louisa Glenn, Andrew Glenn, Anna Glenn, Jack Sullivan III, PFC Frank Sullivan, Campbell Glenn and Brit Butler.

Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, at St. Agnes Episcopal Church. Rev. Dorie Pratt will officiate. Burial will be in the Sylvan Abbey Cemetery, Clearwater, FL.

The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:00 p.m. Monday, March 8, at Macon Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the St. Agnes Episcopal Church, C/O Karen Welch, 84 Church St. Franklin, NC 28734 or Angel Hospice General Fund, 170 Church Street, Franklin, NC 28734.
