Obituary for James Lee Murphy

James Lee Murphy, 61, of Franklin, passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2022.

Born in Swain County, he was the son of the late Francis Joseph Murphy and Annie Cline McFalls. James lived most of his life in Western North Carolina, he grew up in Cherokee on the reservation. He was an avid fan of the UNC Tarheels, Nascar, and the Carolina Panthers, but the thing he loved most was his family and his dogs

He is survived by his children, Vanessa Murphy of the home, Ben Murphy of Bryson City, NC and Mellie Murphy of Bryson City, NC; and four brothers, Joe Murphy of Broken Arrow, OK, BJ Murphy of Bryson City, NC, Mike Murphy of Anderson, SC and Larry Murphy of Sylva, NC. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; one great grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends.

The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm on Wednesday, February 9 at Macon Funeral Home.

A private graveside will be on Thursday, February 10 at the Birdtown Cemetery in Cherokee. Rev. Ben Reedwill officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Cherokee Boys Club, in Cherokee, NC.
