Obituary for Jack Smith

Jack Walton Smith, 80, of Franklin, entered into rest Wednesday, February 16, 2005.

A native of Broken Bow, OK, he was the son of the late O. K. and Sarah Wood Smith. In adition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, O. K. Smith. Jack worked in road construction as a Construction Superintendent. He retired from Operator Engineer Local #12 in Los Angeles, CA; was a US Navy WWII veteran; member of VFW Post 7339; Masonic Lodge No. 179, San Bernardino, CA; and a member of Mt. Hope Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 34 years, Evelyn "Jerri" Shuler Smith; one son, Roger Brown of Franklin; one sister, Sue Payton of Bakersfield, CA; two grandchildren, John Ferreira, now stationed in Iraq, and Jenny Queen and husband, Keith of Franklin; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 18, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Wiley Gibson and Rev. Roy Lowe, will officiate. Burial will be in the Louisa Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Friday, February 18, at Macon Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Bob Parker, Arthur Oshner, Steve Waldroop, George Crawford, Preaulo Crawford, and Bruce Crawford.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Hope Baptist Church Youth Group, C/O Preaulo Crawford, 49 Joy Lane, Franklin, NC 28734.
