Obituary for Ida Belle Bailey

Ida Belle Bailey, of Franklin, North Carolina; went home to be with the Lord on October 29, 2022; age 90. Beloved wife of the late James Robert Bailey; mother of James (Marie) Bailey, Vickie (Sam) Bayne, Randy (Lynn) Bailey, Greg Bailey; grandmother of 15 and great-grandmother of 23. Sister of Marge (Darwin) McLeod. Preceded in death by son, Garry, daughter, Linda, and siblings Betty Davenport, Mary Kallio, Frank Davenport Jr., and Pat Scheffler.

Married to the love of her life, Mr. James Robert Bailey on September 10, 1949 in Port Huron, Michigan, Ida was blessed to share 51 amazing years with James, building upon the comforts of home, raising six beautiful children, and growing deeper in love with each passing day. James journeyed on ahead of his beloved on December 27, 2000, where he’s been waiting for their blessed reunion.

Along with the responsibilities of motherhood and family, Ida was also part of the workforce where she served as a service representative in the banking industry for many years. She was a dedicated employee who found great joy in her job in getting to interact with the public and share her warm and inviting smile with her community. Ida will also be remembered as a consummate journalist who spent countless hours recording the events and special moments in her life, for posterities sake. And for the sweet-tooths in the family, Ida’s delectable cinnamon rolls were to die for,…especially with a cold glass of milk, or a hot cup of coffee.

Yet of all that will speak to Ida’s memory, none-so-much was as important as her deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ. A devout member of two different churches, it was the many years spent at the former Silvercrest Baptist Church in Waterford that she and James grew in their faith and shared the joys of the “Family of God.” While at Silvercrest, Ida’s ministerial gifts included her beautiful singing, directing the church choir, teaching Sunday School, and wearing the hat as the church’s bookkeeper. Later in life, she and James decided to spend their retirement years down where his roots existed in Franklin, North Carolina. It was there that being a part of the church was still quite vital, so they became members of the Riverbend Baptist Church there in town where they worked out their faith with a brand new church family. Ida will forever be revered as a humble servant of the Lord and did all she could to spread the gospel in her little corner of the world. There’s no doubt, her Father in Heaven rings out…”Well done, my good & faithful servant.”

A cherished wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Ida leaves behind a wonderful legacy of love to be treasured with each reflection shared by those who were blessed to know her and love her. She truly enjoyed her journey this side of Heaven;…may she, now, bask in the glory for which she’s been awaiting,…and covet her reunion with her beloved James.
