Obituary for Helen Olivia Byrd (Jacobs)

Helen Jacobs Byrd of Hendersonville, NC, formerly of Franklin, passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2020.
Helen was one of six children born to Eugene and Bessie Baldwin Jacobs. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband Frank Byrd; brothers, J.C. Jacobs, Radford Jacobs, and Carrol Jacobs and sisters, Kate Jacobs Cowan and Lois Jacobs Meadows.
Surviving her are her sons, Ronald Byrd and wife Rhonda, Gary Byrd and wife Phillis; granddaughter, Carley Byrd Nevills and husband Don and great grandchildren, Abigail Nevills and Samantha Nevills.
Helen was born and raised in Macon County. During her working years, Helen worked for “The Twin Shop” in both Bryson City and Franklin. She also was the bookkeeper for her husband, Frank in the farm supply business. Among her many other jobs, she worked as a medical transcriber, dental radiologist and in her later years as a caregiver to others.
Helen and Frank were married for 61 years. They moved to the Hendersonville, NC area over 40 years ago after living in Bryson City, Franklin and Brevard. In Hendersonville, Helen and Frank were members of Mud Creek Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school. She enjoyed serving in her church; she was in a women’s weekly prayer group and cooked Thanksgiving dinner for the entire group every year for many years. She was also a long time member of the Business and Professional Women’s Association of Hendersonville. Helen was an avid dog lover. She had many friends and loved her family. Helen will be sorely missed.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday September 22nd in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Her niece, Rev. Janet Greene will officiate. Burial will be in the Iotla Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
