Obituary for Georgia Conley "Tootsie" Sykes (Conley)

Georgia “Tootsie” Conley Sykes, 93, of Sandy Springs, GA, formerly of Franklin, passed away Thursday, December 31, 2009.

Born in Franklin, she was the daughter of the late George Jackson Conley and Ella Myers Conley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Grover Paris Sykes; three sisters, Jo Fitzpatrick, Kathleen Stevens and Lena Henson and a brother, Dick Conley. Tootsie graduated from Franklin High School and from Georgia-Alabama Business College in Macon, GA. She and Grover lived in Georgia most of their married life, having lived in Rome, GA for twenty three years. While there she was employed at West Rome Baptist Church as secretary and later as financial secretary for seventeen years. When her husband retired from Georgia Power Company they moved to Franklin and made their home on Baird Cove Road. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Franklin and the Electra Sunday School class.

She is survived by two sons, Grover “Geepy” P. Sykes Jr. and wife Beverly of Atlanta, GA and David Conley Sykes of Merizo, Guam; five grandchildren, Gina Elowe, Elizabeth Taylor, Sheri Dockery Carlen Sykes and Sherri Sykes; six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 3, 2010 in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Steve Reeves will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
