On April 26, 2020 Erma Lois Allison bid us a final “Good-Bye”.
Erma was the youngest daughter of Louis Robbins Allison and Elsa Irma Heinrich, born on March 12th, 1929 in Cranford, Union County, New Jersey and died in Franklin, North Carolina at 91 years of age.
Erma worked as an Executive Secretary for a New York bank and a major steel company for most of her working career. She was a woman in a man’s world and enjoyed EVERY MINUTE.
She had always loved to travel. As a young Ingénue, Erma and a friend saved money, took a steamer and toured throughout Europe on bicycles. Once exposed to the Traveling Bug, she continued to travel for most of her adult life. She made friends easily and remained good friends to most for a lifetime.
When Erma retired from her 9 to 5 job, she ramped up her volunteer work with Ocean County Volunteers for the Blind. Erma and her longtime companion, Roberta Vickery now lived in Pine Beach, New Jersey. Erma assisted Roberta, who was herself a blind Physical Therapist. When they both retired (again) they traveled all over the world and the United States, exploring everywhere their hearts desired & wherever their interests took them.
Yes, Erma was an independent, self-assured, confident successful, working woman…but this was only a PART of who she was. Erma valued her family and friends above everything. She was generous in her caring, laughter, encouragement, joy, jokes and most of all her time & good heart.
She has been compared to an Exquisite Cashmere Coat…Classic & Classy always; soft and delightful of heart; and…forever kept warm in her love. She will be missed by many.
Erma is survived by her loving and attentive nephew, Frederick Allison Traut (& Carol L Young) of Franklin, North Carolina, and her great niece, BethAnn Traut Boluch of Altadena, California. Also, her sweet, lovable (and spoiled) Pembroke Welch Corgi rescue, Phoebe.
Along with Roberta, Erma is predeceased by her parents, Louis & Elsie Allison & her beloved sister, Doris Robbins (Allison) Traut and her very wonderful friend Vivian Edgett
The family would like very much to acknowledge the people who were constants in her life, bringing her joys, happiness, and support, especially, in her later years. Laura, Andrew, and Jennifer Ciufia, no one could have better friends and neighbors! Vicki Edgett and Chris & Maureen Landosky, Erma jean Duncanin, all of Pine Beach, New Jersey. Ellen Zaluk of Whiting New Jersey. Virginia Merry, formally from Pine Beach and recently relocated to Sunnyvale, California. Along with, Very Special friends, Mary Lennox and Edwina Hopkins of Melborne, Arkansas.
We would like to say a special “Thank You” to Maren Miller of Glenville, IL…Your devotion to Erma was always present, never wavering and ALWAYS made her smile! You are so very much appreciated.
Services will be private and held at a later time.
