Obituary for Elsie Alger (Farmer)

Elsie Mae Farmer Alger, 81, of Franklin, entered into rest Monday, January 10, 2005.

A native of Macon County, she was the daughter of the late George Brabson and Frances McDowell Farmer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George William Alger, who died in October 2001, and a brother, Glenn W. Farmer, who died in 1996. After graduating from Franklin High School, she attended Blanton's Business College and worked for Western Union for the next twelve years. During most of the war, she worked in Williamsburg, VA, where she met her husband of 57 years. She worked for the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad for 21 years as a steno/clerk and her last employment was manager of Western Union in Fort Eustis, VA. Moving permanently to Franklin in 1998, she became a member of First Presbyterian Church, serving as a former sunday school teacher.

Surviving are a sister-in-law, Jean Farmer of Franklin; one niece, Shannon Babin and husband Kevin of Franklin; three nephews, Rick Farmer and wife Beth of Asheville, David Farmer and Joel Farmer and wife, Vanessa, all of Franklin; and nine great nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 12, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Bob Abel will officiate. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, January 11, at the Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Rick Farmer, David Farmer, Joel Farmer, Doug Ledford, Dearl Ledford, and Lloyd Stamey.
