Obituary for Elizabeth Jane "Betty" Majors

Elizabeth (“Betty”) Jane Majors, 92, passed away quietly in her sleep on October 8, 2022. She was born on September 13, 1930, in Floral Park, New York. Betty was the only child of the late William “Bill” Henry Snedeker and Florence Gladys Saltsman.

Betty moved from New York to the Florida Keys in the mid-1950’s and fell in love with the sun and saltwater. At 26 years old, she purchased a small bar on Islamorada and it soon became quite the hot spot for thirsty fisherman. She met and married her husband, Charles Floyd Majors. In search of new opportunities, the couple moved to Palm Beach County in the early-60’s where they eventually purchased a hotel, restaurant, and nightclub on Singer Island. In 1985, she was named Senior Vice-President with Universal Hotels as well as serving on the Board of Directors for the Palm Beach and Martin County Hotel and Motel Association. After working in the hotel/restaurant business for 40 years, she began a new career in her late 60’s working for AAA where she received many accolades as top sales performer.

Following her husband’s death, Betty moved to Franklin, NC to be near her daughter. Betty was a devoted daughter and wife, and a loving mother and grandmother. Betty was also a proud member of the DAR.

Betty is survived in death by her daughter, Monique Sutton (husband Hardee Sutton), and stepson, Richard Michael Majors; grandson, Jordan Sutton (wife Asia) and granddaughter, Kayla Youstin (husband Ty) and two great-grandchildren, Olivia and James Youstin, as well as many cousins in and around Palatine, New York.

At her request, a private family service will be held.
