Obituary for Elbert Carpenter

Elbert  Carpenter
Elbert Carpenter, 94, of Franklin, passed away Saturday, September 29, 2007.

Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late Harley Carpenter and Louise Jane Norton Carpenter. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Merle Brown Carpenter who died in 1974 and two brothers, Ernie and Ervin and a sister, Dovie Pitts. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII; a member of the VFW Post 7339 and a member of Franklin Church of God. Elbert worked at the C.C. C. Camp and at Macon Furniture Mart.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Ina Pauline Hedden Carpenter; two children, Joyce Sanders and husband Darrell of Franklin and Gary Dean Carpenter and wife Laurie of Atlanta, GA; step son, Tommy McMahan and wife Gail; two brothers, Harley Carpenter, Jr. and Edward Carpenter both of Franklin; sister, Flora Burrell of Franklin; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 2, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Wiley Gibson and Rev. Alan Taylor will officiate. Burial will be in the Clarks Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the VFW Post 7339 & the American Legion Post 108.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, October 1, at Macon Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Andy Carpenter, Darren Sanders, Tommy Carpenter, David Pitts, James Burrell and Jimmy Hedden.

Honorary Pallbearers will be C.D. Jenkins, Clarence Hall, Kim Hedden and Ed Waldroop.

Macon Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
