Edgar Carpenter, 88, of Franklin, passed away Saturday, October 11, 2008.

Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late E.J. Carpenter and Eula Dean Carpenter. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Estelle Bennett Carpenter; second wife, Eula Dalrymple Carpenter; son-n-law, James E. Sanders and brothers, Jack and Dean Carpenter. Edgar was a retired Teacher for Macon County Schools and was a lifelong resident of Macon Co. He was a member of the VFW, Retired Teachers Association and Amateur Radio Operators (8424 Repeater Group). He loved to make music and he considered himself “the best mandolin player in Macon County”. He was of the Baptist Faith.

He is survived by four children, David Carpenter and wife Michael Ann of Bowling Green, KY, Ben Carpenter and wife Patti of Walhalla, SC, Linda Harrison and husband Bob of Franklin and Frances Sanders of Franklin; three siblings, Robert C. Carpenter of Franklin, C. Kenneth Carpenter of Warner Robbins, GA and Louise Darnell of Franklin; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be held at 2p.m. Monday, October 13, 2008 in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Guy Duvall will officiate. Burial will be in the Iotla Baptist Church Cemetery. VFW Post 7339 and American Legion Post 108 will conduct military graveside rites.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Robert Harrison, Eric Jameson, Tommy Sanders, Mitchell Sanders, Jeff Darnell and Bob Carpenter.
