Obituary for Dorothy Jane Porter (Gregory)

Dorothy Gregory Porter went to be with her Savior Jesus Christ on August 30. She was born in Oxford, MS, on September 29, 1933. She grew up in Greenwood, MS, and raised her family there. She had a long-time career in the restaurant business in Greenwood and later in Highlands, where she resided for the last 28 years.

She was a member of Whiteside Presbyterian Church and First Baptist Highlands. Dorothy loved her Lord and her family and friends. She was known and loved by many in the community as “Mammaw”. She was a Sunday School teacher for many years and enjoyed being in the garden tending her flowers and other plants, feeding and watching birds, reading, watching old movies, and spending time with her family and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Harold Walker Gregory and Louise Higdon Gregory; her brother Harold Walker Gregory, Jr.; sons Gregory Michael Porter and William Thomas Porter, Jr. She is survived by her son Joel Porter (Anne) of Highlands, daughters Lisa Porter Hall (Les) of Aiken, SC, and Melissa Porter Underwood (Peter) of Lilburn, GA, 7 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.

The service will be at First Baptist Church Highlands on Sunday, September 4, at 3:00 pm. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Graveside service and burial will be at Saint Peter’s Cemetery in Oxford, MS, on Tuesday, September 6, at 10:00 am.
