Obituary for Delbert William Sonnabend

Delbert William Sonnabend, 85, awoke in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, January 16, 2010.

Born on December 10, 1924, in Manitowoc, WI, he was the son of the late Theodore and Pauline Sonnabend. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Marie. Del served his country in WWII in the 101st Airborne Division as a paratrooper and medic; fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was active in the American Legion in Milwauwkee, WI. Del was a gifted carpenter and furniture maker. His hobbies and interests were diverse and his hands rarely idle. He loved to travel, especially to Alaska where he would hunt and fish with his nephew. While living in Franklin, NC, Del served as an elder at Cornerstone EPC and became involved with missions. He made his first of several missions trips in his 70's. Del love participating in the Senior Games and won awards on the state level in bowling. At age 80 he won 2nd prize in the Womanless Beauty contest for Relay for Life.
He will be greatly missed by nieces and nephews, his adopted family George and Linda Paulson, and Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Lynchburg, VA.

Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 14, at Cornerstone EPC. Pastor Ron Odum will officiate. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the VFW Post 7339 and the American Legion Post 108. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
