Obituary for David Carey Cabe

David Carey Cabe, 80, of Franklin, went home to be with Jesus, on Saturday, March 25, 2023.

Born in Macon County he was the son of late Carey W. and Veo Burrell Cabe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Leila Gonzalez Cabe; two brothers, John Cabe and Odell Hopkins; and two sisters, Frances Hopkins and Frankie Hopkins. David proudly served his country, first serving in the Navy and later serving in the Coast Guard. After retiring from the service, he returned to Franklin where he worked as a paper carrier for the Asheville Citizens and the Atlanta Journal Constitution. He was a longtime member of the Macon County Coon Hunters and a faithful member at Union United Methodist Church.

David is survived by his five children, Leila of Jacksonville, FL, Elaine of Long Island, NY, Victor of Ft Lauderdale, FL, Jess of Franklin, NC, and Rosemary of Franklin, NC; three sisters, Frances Cabe of Mountain City, GA, Rose Stiles of Otto, NC, and Opal Tilley of Galivants Ferry, SC. There are numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews also surviving.

A graveside service will be 12pm on Tuesday, April 11 at the Union United Methodist Church Cemetery. Rev. Janet Greene will officiate. Military honors will be provided by VFW Post7339 and American Legion Post 108.

The family will receive friends on Monday April 10, from 6pm to 8pm at Macon Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be members of the Macon County Coon Hunters Club.
