Obituary for Clarence Eugene Mason

Clarence Eugene  Mason
Clarence Eugene Mason, of Franklin, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2008, at Harris Regional Hospital.

A native of Macon County he was the son of the late beloved and Mary Gertrude Ray Mason Lee Roy Mason, Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Carroll , L.R., Ray and Harve Dale and one sister, Charlotte Snyder. Clarence was a member of Franklin First Baptist Church where he attended faithfully and received great Biblical teachings and much enjoyment through the Swafford-West Sunday School Class. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and owned and operated Mason’s Food Palace, the last locally owned grocery store, for forty-five years. Community contributions include: member and chairman of the Macon County Board of Commissioners; member of the Board of Directors of First Citizens Bank; 50-year member of Junaluskee Lodge 145, A.F. and A.M.; member of the Oasis Shrine Temple Provost Guard; Smoky Mountain Shrine Club and the Eastern Star Fraternal Organization. Clarence’s aim in life was to fulfill his Christian faith by living in peace and fellowship with his fellowman and to never deny one who needed help or encouragement.

He is survived by his wife of 48 ½ years, Elizabeth Franklin Mason; two sons, Todd Mason and Barry Mason both of Franklin; two sisters, Freda M. Hartshorn of Lincoln, Nebraska and Anna Jean Dick and husband Bob of Gastonia, NC; sisters-in-law, Patricia J. Mason of Clayton, GA, Louise M. Slocum, Dixie W. Mason and Anna Lou S. Mason all of Franklin; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Jim Dusek and Rev. Lloyd Fish will officiate. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm. Tuesday, May 13, at Macon Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be John Chandler, David Cashion, Robert Kraus, Donald Wallace, Neville Wilson and Dennis Wilkey.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Elevator Fund or charity of one’s choice.

Macon Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
