Clara Henson Gregory, 93, of Hickory Knoll Road, Franklin, passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2010.
Born in Clay Co, NC, she was the daughter of the late Homer Henson and Virginia Fuller Henson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Gregory, who passed away in 1973. Seven siblings also preceded her in death to include, sisters, Bessie Swanson, Bernice Waldroop, Flora Henson, Anne Allen; brothers, Charles Henson, ‘B’ Henson, and Claude Henson. Clara was Valedictorian of Clay County Elf High School, class of 1934. For many years, she worked at Clayburne Manufacturing and then Belden. She loved to quilt, crochet, make lye soap, garden and enjoyed raising chickens. She was of the Methodist faith and attended Hickory Knoll United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Carole Gregory and Jean Gregory Evans and husband Ronald, both of Franklin; two sons, David Gregory and wife Woodie of Clayton and Ed Gregory of Fredericksburg, VA; a sister, Mary Cagle of Franklin; a grandson, Ted Gregory of Greenville, SC; a great-grandson, Collin Gregory and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 16 in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Steve Reeves will officiate. Burial will be in Rush Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-9:00 p.m. Thursday, April 15, at Macon Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Ted Gregory, Joe Joe Campagne, Ken Carter and George Gleason.
