Catherine Smith Olson, 86, of Franklin, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 31, 2009 at home with her loving husband at her side.
Catherine was born in Musselburgh, Scotland and came to the US at age 2 with her mother and father, Catherine and John Smith and her older brother, John Smith. She was raised in Kearny and Harrison, NJ and also lived in Forked River, NJ, before moving to Franklin, with her husband Clifford in 1990. Catherine worked as a secretary for Dr. Owen at the NOPCO Chemical Company in Harrison for many years and retired as a court clerk with Ocean County Court House in Toms River, NJ. She was an avid reader and loved to vacation at the NJ shore as well as traveling to her birth land of Scotland to visit her many cousins. During her early years in Franklin she volunteered to tutor children in reading within the Cowee school system. She loved animals and owned several cherished dogs and two special cats over the course of her life. She enjoyed watching the birds feed from her front porch and tending to her small garden. In the company of her husband Clifford, Catherine traveled to California, Canada and her beloved Scotland. Catherine leaves behind her husband of 62 years and 11 months, Clifford G. Olson; daughter, Lynn C. Olson of Franklin; brother, John Smith and his wife Helen of Kearny, NJ; goddaughter, Mrs. Beth Watson; many nieces and nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and many relatives in Scotland. She will be remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother and friend. Many special thanks to Sallie Tallent and Ginny Nobles her devoted hospice nurses that took wonderful care of Catherine. Memorial Service will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 4, 2009 at St. Agnes Episcopal Church. Rev. Dori Pratt will officiate.
