Obituary for Carolyn Hutto DeBardelaben (Hutto)

Carolyn Hutto  DeBardelaben (Hutto)
Carolyn Hutto DeBardelaben of Franklin, NC passed away at Britthaven of Franklin, on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 after a seven (plus) years affliction of progressing Alzheimer’s.

Born in Jeff Davis Co, GA, on March 23, 1931, she was the second of four children born to George Lee Hutto and Gertrude Harrell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Jordie Hutto Igo; a brother, Jesse Eugene “Bo” Hutto; son-in law, Kenneth Craig Keith; grandson, Kacy Jackson Keith; brother-in law, Grover Cleveland Herrington and a nephew, Robert Igo. In 1949 Carolyn married Mark DeBardelaben of Atlanta beginning a marriage of more than 60 years. Carolyn and Mark raised two children in Decatur and later Stone Mountain, Georgia. Carolyn was of the Christian faith. Her lifetime church affiliations included Satilla Baptist in Hazelhurst, GA, Columbia Drive Baptist in Decatur, Georgia, and Pine Grove Baptist upon moving permanently to Macon County North Carolina in 1986. She had a long (27 year) affiliation with Emory University in Atlanta, being an important member of Emory’s Administration staff until retiring in 1986. She worked among the top executives there, including the University’s Presidents, being for many years executive secretary to the Vice President for Business Affairs. She was the original “bookkeeper” for President Jimmy Carter’s Library in Atlanta. Carolyn was a most remarkable and loved person with considerable talents. She had the ability to observe, understand, and tend to the needs of anyone or any situation she was involved with. Her deeds centered upon family, church work, and employment. She was Christ like, most loving, and unselfish.

In addition to her husband, Mark DeBardelaben, she is survived by a son, Frank Parker DeBardelaben and wife Linda Moore of Franklin; a daughter, Chris Ann DeBardelaben Keith of Alpharetta, GA; a sister, Mildred Hutto Herrington of Hazelhurst, GA ; two grandsons, Frank Parker II of Atlanta and Justin Keith of Alpharetta, GA; brother-in law, Austin Igo of Hazelhurst, GA; sister-in law, Marilyn Hutto; nieces and nephews, Grover Cleveland “GC” Herrington and wife Joanne, Cathy, Judy and Keith Igo, Vickie, Donna and Lisa Hutto and their families.

A Graveside Service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, January 15, in Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Greg Rogers will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 11-12:00 p.m. Friday, January 15, prior to the Graveside Service at Macon Funeral Home.
