Obituary for Bob Sanders

Bob Sanders, 87, of 83 First Street, Franklin NC passed away peacefully at home on Sat., Feb. 3, 2007.

A native of Macon County, he was the son of the late Frank and Iris Tallent Sanders. He was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church. In his later years, he attended First Baptist Church of Franklin.

Bob served his country with honor in the US Army for over five years. He fought in France and Germany during WWII. He was baptized in France before the Normandy invasion. He was awarded the American Defense Service Medal in 1944. He also received a Camet Campaign Medal with five bronze stars and a good conduct medal after service. After service, Bob returned to Franklin and over the years ran several businesses including the Sanders Café, a Mica Mine, Franklin Construction, and Franklin Grading. He always found time to give back to the community and lend a helping hand to others. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, VFW Post 7339, and the American Legion 108. Going to NASCAR races was one of his hobbies and he didn’t miss a Daytona 500 for forty years.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jodie Waldroop Sanders, two children: Jennifer Jackson and husband Scott of Franklin and Joe Sanders and wife Dana also of Franklin. Three grandchildren: Brooke Bell Waldroop and husband Christopher; Lauren Sanders and Preston Sanders. One brother, Clyde Sanders. Two great grand children: Maddox and Maveric Waldroop. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday, February 5 in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Tommy Fouts will officiate. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery with military rites conducted by the VFW post 7339 and American Legion 108.

The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:30 p.m. Monday, prior to the service at Macon Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Jack Sanders, Dennis Sanders, Ray Penland, Greg Young, Christopher Waldroop and Johnny Waldroop.

Memorial donations may be made to the Angel Hospice Foundation, PO Box 815, Franklin NC 28744.
