Obituary for Arthur W Cabe
Arthur Warren Cabe, age 95, was born on August 29, 1923 at the head of Cat Creek in the Holly Springs Community, Macon County to Eva Mary Moses Cabe and Clarence Weaver Cabe. He died on Monday, December 17, 2018 in Franklin. Arthur graduated from Holly Springs School and Franklin High School (class of 1941). He was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church. Arthur was in the U.S. Army from 1943-1946; his MOS was automatic rifleman. He served in the Asia Pacific Theater during World War II. After retiring from Burlington Industries, he manned the Holly Springs Recycling Center.
In 1953, Arthur and Annie Ruth Dean Cabe were married; she died in 2017 and they would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this past November. Arthur missed her companionship and her cooking. He often said that she could turn food grown in the garden into a good meal. In addition to Annie Ruth and his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Jerry Charles Cabe; and siblings Alma C. Taylor, Bertha Cabe, James Robert Cabe, Earl H. Cabe, Iris C. Alderman, Gene R. Cabe, and Ernest Perry Cabe.
Arthur is survived by his daughters Sara C. Wheeless (Mark) of Raleigh, NC, Audrey C. Henderson (Tom) of Otto, and Susan C. Bunn (David) of Kenly, NC; a daughter-in-law, Beverly R. Cabe (Jerry) of Mills River; a sister Shirley C. Hodnett (Leroy); sister-in-law Jane T. Cabe (Robert); brothers-in-law Eugene Dean (Libby), and Dale Dean, and several nieces and nephews. His grandchildren are Amy Ferris Wheeless, William Wheeless, Daniel Wheeless, Thomas Henderson, Rebecca H. Cope, Noah Henderson, Molly H. Reed, Shelley C. Graham, Melissa Cabe, and Allison Bunn. He was delighted by his great-grandchildren (Eli, Mira, Arleigh, Eva, and Evan).
Arthur loved to work outside – cutting/chopping wood, hunting ginseng, gardening, mowing, and trimming – and took pleasure in just being outside in the mountains. He grew a large garden, or two, every year. He read often, but especially The Franklin Press, The Macon News, and almost anything from the Macon County Public Library’s large print section. He frequently listened to the Franklin Panthers football games on Friday nights. Arthur loved to talk and enjoyed visits with church and family members. He kept up with current events and goings-on in the community and the world, and he often had an opinion.

Funeral Service will be held at 1 pm, Thursday, December 20 in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Bud Haire and Rev. Judson Hall will officiate. Burial will be in Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by VFW Post 7339 and American Legion Post 108.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Macon Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Harlfinger, Noah Henderson, Jason Reed, Philip Cope, Johnathan Dean, and Terry Cabe.
