Obituary for Annie Ruth Cabe (Dean)

Annie Ruth Cabe (Dean)
Annie Ruth Dean Cabe, the daughter of John Henry Dean and Lessie Mary Ammons Dean, was born August 17, 1935 in the home built by her father in the Burningtown section of Macon County. Her parents moved to a farm on Rabbit Creek in the Holly Springs Community when she was a baby, and she lived most of the rest of her life on a portion of that farm. She died June 12, 2017 in Franklin, NC. Annie Ruth graduated from Holly Springs School and Franklin High School, and was in the top 10 of the Class of 1953. She was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church.
Annie Ruth is survived by her husband of 63 years, Arthur Warren Cabe, whom she married in 1953. She is also survived by brothers Dale J. Dean and Eugene Dean; Eugene’s wife Elizabeth and their son Johnathan E.; niece Gail Dean; and a large extended family. She is predeceased by son Jerry Charles Cabe, sister Lolita A. Dean, brother Ralph J. Dean, and nephew Stephen B. Dean.
Annie Ruth is the mother of Sara Ellen Cabe Wheeless (Mark) of Raleigh, NC; Jerry Charles Cabe (deceased) and his wife Beverly; Audrey Carol Cabe Henderson (Tom) of Otto, NC; and Susan Annette Cabe Bunn (David) of Kenly, NC. She has ten grandchildren: Amy Wheeless Ferris, William Wheeless, Daniel Wheeless, Thomas Henderson, Rebecca Henderson Cope, Noah Henderson, Molly Reed, Shelley Cabe Graham, Melissa Cabe, and Allison Bunn. She has 4 great-grandchildren (Mira, Eva, Eli, and Arleigh) whom she adored.
She provided childcare in her home, and then worked for Little Caeser’s Pizza for nineteen years. Animals loved her; several stray dogs, cats, and a bird found her and became family pets. She was a wonderful cook and spent her summers canning, freezing, and making jams and jellies. She enjoyed family history and visiting old family cemeteries in Macon and Swain Counties. Annie Ruth and Arthur were avid readers; through them their children learned to love reading.
