Obituary for Al Thompson

Alton “Al” Curtis Thompson, passed away Friday, May 5, 2023.

He was born in Raleigh, North Carolina on June 18, 1950, to his mother, Alice Elizabeth Weaver, and his late father, Curtis Root Thompson. Al was a great husband, father, and friend. He was a veteran of Vietnam and received three Purple Hearts. He was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corp in March of 1974. After his military service, he attended Lake Sumter Community College and earned an associate degree in landscaping and welding. He owned his own landscaping company in central Florida for 30 years. He worked for Publix Supermarkets for eight years, and he was employed by New Creations Landscaping over the last ten years in North Carolina. Through the years, Al demonstrated a strong work ethic and mentored many young men in his lifetime.

Al first and foremost enjoyed being with his family. He loved animals, especially dogs. He was an avid gardener with a green thumb and grew beautiful tomatoes and roses. He liked being outdoors and working!

Al is survived by his wife, Julie Thompson, and their son, Justin Thompson. He is also survived by his mother, Alice Weaver, his sister, Beth Twiss and her husband, Otis Twiss, his brother, Michael Weaver and wife, Bobby Weaver, and his brother, Tim Weaver. He is survived too by sister-in-law, Tamara Hayman, and her husband John Hayman and Lynette Fields, and her boyfriend, Doug Scott. He will be deeply missed by many nieces and nephews, friends, and co-workers.

A service for Al will be on Monday, May 15, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Leesburg, Florida.
