Obituary for Jack William Jones

Jack W. Jones, organist, conductor, accompanist and composer, passed away on Friday, June 1, 2018.

Jack was born in Daytona Beach and graduated from Mainland High School, Stetson University, Union Theological Seminary, and received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in organ performance from the Juilliard School. Dr. Jones founded the Masterworks Chorus of the Palm Beaches in 1979 to bring performances of major choral works to Palm Beach County and conducted the chorus for 31 years. He served as Organist-Director of Music at the Royal Poinciana Chapel in Palm Beach from 1989 to 2013. Additional positions were teaching at Florida Atlantic University, Mercer University, Palm Beach Atlantic University, and Palm Beach State College. Jack also used his musical talents as Chorus Master for the Palm Beach Opera, Artistic Director of the Gilbert & Sullivan Light Opera Society, and Music Director for the Burt Reynolds Dinner Theatre, the Burt Reynolds Institute for Theatre Training, Repertory Theatre, the Stage Company, and Sculpture Theatre. Dr. Jones published many organ, piano, instrumental and vocal compositions; accompanied a multitude of recitals; performed in diverse concerts and recordings; and gave numerous organ Dedicatory Recitals and Organ Concerts. In retirement, Dr. Jones served as Organist-Choirmaster for the Church of the Good Shepherd in Cashiers, North Carolina.

Jack is survived by his spouse and partner of 22 years Marty Marshall.

Services will be held at a future date in Palm Beach, Florida.
