Obituary for Nat B. Henry

Nat B.  Henry
Nat B. Henry, 68, of Franklin, passed away Monday, January 11, 2016.

Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late Thurman Henry and Arcilla Woody Henry. Nat was a retired U.S. Army veteran. While serving in Vietnam, Nat’s unit was attacked and all but five men were lost. Nat was one of them and was taken POW, July 12, 1967, where he was held until March 5, 1973. Henry has been recognized for his outstanding service and valor to the United States of America by being awarded two Silver Stars, two Bronze Stars, two Purple Hearts with Oak Leaf Clusters, including the Presidential Citation, and numerous other medals. In October 18, 2012, the state named the bridge on the 441 by-pass in Henry's honor. He also served as a charter member of the Macon County Vietnam Veterans Chapter 994 and has served two terms as president and chairman of the board of directors. Henry graduated from Haywood Community College with a degree in horticulture. He became an original member of the Burningtown Fire Department and helped secure land for the construction of the current department. He was owner/operator of Henry's greenhouses for 20 years and was a member of Burningtown Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Becky Wright Henry; son, John Henry of Murphy; two brothers, James “Prat” Patrick Henry and wife Cora and Harry M. Henry and wife Mary; one granddaughter, Breanna Nicole Crisp and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 17, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Guy Duvall will officiate. Burial will be in the Burningtown Baptist Church Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Fort Bragg U.S. Army military detail and the VFW Post 7339 and the American Legion Post 108.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, January 16, at Macon Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Joe Breedlove, Mike Breedlove, Ryan Rowland, Derek Roland, Mitchell Owenby and Zack Fouts.

Members of the VVA and Patriot Guard will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.

Macon Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
