Obituary for Huel Warden Sorrells

Huel Warden Sorrells, 76, of Franklin, passed away Friday, October 2, 2015.

Born in Macon Co, he was the son of the late Grover Sorrells and Hattie Wooten Sorrells Huel was a US Navy veteran with fleet action during the Cuban Missile Crisis and support action in the Dominican Republic and Lebanon. He was a licensed building contractor, real estate broker, was a former building inspector in Mecklenburg County and electrical-building inspector in Macon County. He was building code instructor for several community colleges in the area. Huel was a charter member of Mashburn Branch Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Christine Kell Sorrells; three children, Fred Sorrells, Phil Sorrells and Cindy Sorrells Cooper (Rodney) all of Franklin; one sister, Ann Brogden of Franklin; one brother, Jerry Sorrells of Candler, NC; step-mother, Frances Sorrells; half-brother, Robert Sorrells of Franklin; one half-sister, Robin Sorrells of Waynesville; two grandchildren, Isabella and Connor Cooper and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, October 5th at Mashburn Branch Baptist Church. Rev. Alton Dendy, Rev. Mike Chastain and Rev. Travis Buchanan will officiate. Burial will be in Sugarfork Baptist Church Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 7339 and American Legion Post 108.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, October 4th at Macon Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Joe Brogden, Chris Brogden, Randy Sorrells, Dominic Sorrells, Isaac Gibson and Shane Moore.
